"Unisex prevention programs - largely developed without regard to gender, often with males in mind - fail to influence millions of girls and young women. The women of America have paid a fearful price in premature death and destroyed lives for our failure to craft programs aimed at their unique needs." (Joseph A. Califano, Jr., CASA president and former U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare.)
With this in mind, Assist Her, Inc. encourages all individuals and organizations to make a conscious effort to empower girls in the month of April.
Our Suggested Empowerment Tips
- Hold a workshop or girl pow-wow at your organization or home
- Serve as a mentor
- Help with homework
- Get manicures/pedicures
- Give sincere compliments
- Take time to find out what girls' interests are and help them tap into their creativity.
- Create opportunities for girls to explore new things, sample diversity, and give back to their communities.
- Actively listen to girls' voices, opinions, and ideas. Remember to recognize accomplishments.
